Just a quick hint to prolong the life of your kilnshelfes.
I use stonewareclay, preferebly 40 percent grog, and make thin slabs, bisque them and then I use them as 'baking sheets' if I'm working with 'running' glazes or other messy experiments.
Then I can discard the 'baking sheet' instead of labour intensive plate grinding if something goes wrong.
