the finish line

Mes amies, I give you the final pages of my sketchbook project. Unfortunately I ran out of time to scan the last 3 pages before leaving the Isle of Man, so we will have to make do with photographs.

Did someone ask for evidence that I would send my sketchbook back to the Brooklyn Art Library via Paris...? It feels so good to finish another project! See how it all started here; how I've progressed here; and the lovely lady who shared the love here.

my creative space

Trying a new technique this week; ink outline first, then messy splashes of colour. Its nice to go outside the lines.

It is difficult to believe now much this project is improving my drawing skills. I used to be so precious with my drawings and I had such little confidence in sketching that I avoided it where possible (how did I manage that as an art student?!) especially in front of other people. This little sketchbook is teaching me lessons…mainly that imperfection is beautiful. More creativity today with Kirsty.

my (sketchy) creative space

Oh dear. I haven't played My Creative Space for over a month! Not that there hasn't been any creating going on...a lot has been made, but only a little has been documented! So today I'll share my new pages for The Sketchbook Project. Although the book itself will be sent back to New York in January, I'm creating a digital version so I can (hopefully) develop the drawings into new designs for my pots next year. Yay!

Look!  4 double page spreads of my sketchbook!  Back on target.  I'm still hoping for a double page per week.  Did I mention I'm hoping to send my sketchbook back to New York from Paris?!  Yep.  I'll be in Europe in January, eeeee!

I'm not sure why I only painted one or two colours on each of these sketches.  It may be partly related to my slip cast lorikeets, as I only coloured a couple of sections on each of them.  I unintentionally drew the green feather next to the bird with green only sections on pages 10 & 11, but I like the idea.  I'm working from my friend' photographs, so I can zoom in to identify which feathers create each colour section.  I wonder how long these pretty birds will hold my attention?

Yes, I know, this is 2 weeks late. I'll do my best to catch up. The paper was still damp when I scanned these!

The Sketchbook Project

A few weeks ago, after reading this post, the clever Erin Lykos (I heart her pots) invited me to join this amazing international art collection; The Sketchbook Project. Hosted by The Brooklyn Art Library, thousands of sketchbooks will tour the US (quote "like a concert tour but with sketchbooks") then become part of the library's permanent collection and be available for the general public to browse through. Each book has a bar code, so the original owners can track who looks through the sketchbook, when and where! How awesome is that?! It takes just $25 USD to become part of this monumentous art project. Guess what my subject matter will be?!
Inside front cover (yes, I will do something with that) & page 1

My plan is to paint and scan a double page every week to publish here...I have until Saturday 15th January 2011 to fill it...can I do it?!

my creative space

I'm being a good girl and attempting to complete all my college work before the deadline. Ceramic units seem so much easier to finish on time; painting or drawing projects must be harder to organise. Or maybe I lack the necessary motivation? I think I overcommit myself to my sketch book too...I have a big love of 'visual diaries', stretching back to my first year of high school, so research papers and portfolio works tend to get neglected.
Watercolour paints, blue nail varnish (for my nails, not my college work...), watercolour pencils, mint tea, Bird book.
Jewellery pliers, silver wire, moo cards, edward monkton calender, tim tam, paintbrushes, pens, pencils, scissors, masking fluid, non-college sketch book, pretty girl design

You should really pop over and see Kootoyoo, there'll be some nice creative types over there today :)
